The number of lines in a printed or digital version of Ramcharitmanas is over 12,000. Our objective is to provide a unique identification to each verse, Doha, Shloka, Chhand or Chaupai. The numbering of Chaupai is also reset to one after each Doha/Soratha. The numbering of Dohas/Sorathas and Chhands is reset to one in each Kānd. The number of Chaupais or Chhands between two Dohas/ Sorathas is not fixed either. Even though a Doha or Soratha contains only two lines but Goswami Tulsidas has written two or more Dohas or Sorathas together. This can create confusion and at times pose some difficulties in referencing them. The numbering of Chaupais, Chhands, Dohas, Sorathas or Shlokas in Ramcharitmanas is not unique either. The reference to a chaupai, doha and other composition is not easy and straightforward. How about the other very famous and most quoted chaupai: रघुकुल रीति सदा चलि आई। प्रान जाहुँ बरु बचनु न जाई।। (Raghukul Reeti Sada Chali । Aai, Pran Jaye par Vachan na Jaai ।।)? This is the last line of Chaupai 2 following Doha 27 in Ayodhya Kānd. बिहारी।। (Mangal Bhavan Amangal Haari | Drabahu Su Dasharath Achar Bihari) the answer will be that it is the 2nd line of the second Chaupai after Doha Number 111 in Bal Kānd.
